“Lillebror och Karlsson på taket”
Author: Astrid Lindgren
Illustrator: Ilon Wikland
Translator: Yuzo Otsuka
“Woo-hoo, Lillebror!” “Woo-hoo, Karlsson!”
I remember both the long name Lillebror and these lines well.
The same is true of the line “Choo-chi, choo-chi, awww…” Karlsson said when he soothed a baby.
I also remember the illustrations well, and I think I was looking at them more than reading the text.
I recall that big back of head of Lillebror and other children was impressive for me. At that time, almost no Europeans or Americans were seen in town.
When I see the illustrations, I feel a memory somewhere deep inside me, a time-space of those days, slowly moving.
Thanks to Lindgren’s books, Stockholm, Sweden, and Scandinavia became familiar to me as an elementary school student. (finish reading: April 7, 2024)
