The first time I read this book would be at lunchtime, in my high school library. It was a beautiful book, with a purple cover, beautiful paper quality and colors, and classic illustrations.

The book was very interesting, and I was drawn to this book in the same way that Bastian was drawn to the book of “The Neverending Story”.

Later, I visited the “Ende Father and Son” exhibition in Tokyo.

Edgar Ende’s paintings were full of symbols and mystical, as if they were looking into the deeper world of unconscious layer rather than this world. I thought of Odilon Roudon’s paintings.

He was a father who aspired to paint at a time of the Nazi era.

(Kästner, who wrote bright and colorful works, was also a contemporary.)

When I reread the book now, it taught me that if you keep moving forward step by step, there is no journey that never ends, unexpected magic will happen, and finally you will find a way out.
