Deux Ans de Vacances (Fukuinkan Shoten Publishers, Inc. 1968)
Author:  Jules Gabriel Verne
Translator: Takashi Asaoka
Illustrator: Daihachi Ohta

I remember being surprised when I realized in my elementary school’s library that “15 Boys Drifting” and “Two Years Vacation” were the same book.

The first edition was published in 1888, and it is very impressive that the book is over 100 years old.  In the book, it also mentions that the boys took a 1860 calendar to the island.

It is a very fun adventure novel, and perhaps what people find interesting has not changed that much since the time of Homer, regardless of whether it’s in the East or the West.

As elementary school children, I didn’t care that the author was Jules Verne, and I didn’t even know that he was the same author as “20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.”

Although they are 15 boys, they are all independent adults.

They shoot guns, they are stern with strict discipline, and they have their own personalities.

The covers of the Fukuinkan’s Classical Fairy Tales series are printed in color, and the outer boxes are beautiful They are treasure boxes filled with the world of great dreams all over the world.
